Ryan Reynolds



Ryan Rodney Reynolds (born October 23, 1976) is a Canadian actor. He is known for his roles in National Lampoon's Van Wilder, Waiting..., Just Friends, Definitely, Maybe, The Proposal and Buried, as well as Wade Wilson/Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His television roles include Michael "Berg" Bergen on Two Guys and a Girl. Reynolds also stars in the upcoming DC superhero film Green Lantern alongside Blake Lively and Mark Strong.



Reynolds was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His father, James, is a retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer who later became a food wholesaler, and his mother, Tammy, is a retail salesperson. He is of Irish ancestry and was raised Roman Catholic. The youngest of four brothers, he graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver in 1994. He then attended Kwantlen College, also in Vancouver, until dropping out.



In 2002 at Drew Barrymore's birthday party, Reynolds met Canadian singer Alanis Morissette, and the couple began dating. The two announced their engagement in June 2004. In February 2007, representatives for Morissette and Reynolds announced that they had mutually decided to end their engagement. Morissette's album Flavors of Entanglement was created out of her grief after the breakup.


Soon after the end of his relationship with Morissette, Reynolds began dating actress Scarlett Johansson in 2007 and the couple announced their engagement on May 5, 2008. They married on September 27, 2008, in a quiet ceremony near Tofino, British Columbia. On December 14, 2010, Reynolds and Johansson announced that they had separated, saying in a joint statement, "After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage...We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it." Reynolds filed for divorce on December 23, 2010 in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences. Johansson filed her divorce response simultaneously.


In October 2008, Reynolds wrote for The Huffington Post regarding his plan to run the New York City Marathon for his father, who suffers from Parkinson's Disease.


Reynolds was named one of People magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" in 2008, 2009, and 2010
